Thank you!

2020 is a year that we will always remember.

Whilst a lot of things associated with the year 2020 will be easily (and willingly) forgotten, last Sunday’s Suncorp Super Netball Grand Final will be a memory we will always treasure.

Not only was it a thrilling game against the West Coast Fever - a match that was more than worthy of its Grand Final billing – but after all our state has been through this year, the victory was extra sweet.

For the players, it made the eight months of pre-season training - including countless zoom trainings and solo running sessions - worth it.

For the coaches and support staff, it meant the hours and hours of work that had gone into meticulously planning the team’s approach to the year had not gone to waste.

For those who spent nearly 100 days away from their family and loved ones, it made the sacrifice all the more palatable.

And for those who couldn’t be there in Queensland for whatever reason this season, they still got to be part of a fairytale ending.

But none of this would’ve happened without you; our Victorian netball community. This Premiership belongs to you as much as the 14 players in that now iconic victory photo from last Sunday.

You may have pledged your membership, to ensure that the Vixens could still take the court this year. Many sent a good luck message via social media, week in, week out, urging the team on.

Others bought Vixens merchandise, wearing it proudly in the 5km radius they explored during lockdown. And thousands tuned into every Vixens game, live show and podcast.

You may have never followed netball or supported the Vixens before, but thought ‘you know what? These are some incredible athletes doing their utmost to make people smile in a hard time, I’m going to support them too.’

Whether you did one or all of the above - or showed your support in a completely different way - we cannot express our gratitude to you enough.

Whilst 2020 has kept many of us physically apart, it has brought the Vixens Family even closer. And once you’re in, you’re a #Vixen4Life.

Yours in netball,

Rosie King & Richelle McKenzie

Melbourne Vixens CEO & President
