Vixens great Catherine Cox AM inducted into Australian Netball Hall of Fame

Cox wore the Vixens dress for just one season, but she made it count. In 2014, in the final year of an extraordinary playing career, she helped the club to a premiership title, closing out her playing days with a win over the Queensland Firebirds in the decider.

Cath Cox hit 250 National League games (2014)

Born in New Zealand and raised in Sydney, Cox made her Diamonds debut (#119) against South Africa in Perth in 1997. Despite being overlooked for the 1998 Commonwealth Games and the 1999 World Cup, she fought her way back into the Australian squad and went on to become one of the most reliable shooters the sport has produced.

A decorated international career

Over 108 Test caps, Cox represented her country at three Netball World Cups – 2003, 2007 and 2011 – winning gold in both 2007 and 2011, and was vice-captain of the victorious 2011 team. She also played at three Commonwealth Games (2002, 2006, 2010), claiming gold in Manchester in 2002, and led Australia as captain on seven occasions.

A National League great, with a Vixens finish

At domestic level, Cox turned out for the Sydney Swifts, Perth Orioles, NSW Swifts and West Coast Fever, amassing 254 National League matches across the Commonwealth Bank Trophy and ANZ Championship. She was part of premiership-winning sides with the Sydney Swifts (2004, 2006 and 2007) and NSW Swifts (2008), before joining the Vixens for one final season and helping the club to the 2014 title.

Accolades and a lasting legacy

Cox's excellence was recognised throughout her career and beyond, with accolades including Australian International Player of the Year (2004, 2005), Australian ANZ Championship Player of the Year (2008), Member of the Order of Australia (2022) and Sport Australia Hall of Fame inductee (2022).

She held the National League caps record for 12 years, a mark that stood until the 2026 Suncorp Super Netball season, when it was finally broken by Romelda Aiken-George.

Since retiring from playing, Cox has continued to shape the game as one of its most familiar broadcast voices, calling Super Netball and Diamonds matches for Channel 9 and Fox Sports.

Her induction into the Australian Netball Hall of Fame as an Athlete Member is a fitting tribute to a career defined by longevity, leadership and consistent excellence at the highest level. It's a richly deserved honour, and one the Vixens are proud to celebrate. Congratulations, Cath.
