Three Future Vixens Named in Silver Ferns Squad

Three future Melbourne Vixens have been named in Netball New Zealand’s Silver Ferns squad for the 2026-27 international season, with Carys Stythe, Mila Reuelu-Buchanan and Amelia Walmsley set to join the Vixens for the 2027 Super Netball season.

The trio will bring international experience, versatility and Commonwealth Games gold-medal experience to Melbourne, with all three players selected in an 18-player Silver Ferns squad building towards the 2027 Netball World Cup in Sydney.

The announcement gives Vixens members and fans an early opportunity to celebrate three of the players who will wear the Melbourne dress in 2027.

Carys Stythe

Stythe is a versatile circle defender capable of covering goal defence and goal keeper. She has earned six Test caps and was part of the Silver Ferns’ Commonwealth Games gold-medal campaign in Glasgow.

The 23-year-old joins the Vixens after two seasons with the Southern Steel, bringing athleticism, defensive pressure and the ability to contribute across the defensive circle.

Mila Reuelu-Buchanan

Reuelu-Buchanan brings 31 Test caps and Commonwealth Games gold-medal experience to Melbourne.

A composed and experienced midcourter, she captained the Northern Stars in the 2026 ANZ Premiership season and will add ball movement, control and leadership to the Vixens’ midcourt in 2027.

Amelia Walmsley

Walmsley is a 1.92-metre shooter who has earned 18 Test caps since making her Silver Ferns debut in late 2023.

The 22-year-old also captained New Zealand at the 2025 Netball World Youth Cup. Her height, developing international experience and shooting versatility will give Vixens fans plenty to look forward to when she arrives in Melbourne for the 2027 season.

Building towards 2027

Stythe, Reuelu-Buchanan and Walmsley are part of a Silver Ferns squad that retains the core of the side that ended a 16-year wait for Commonwealth Games gold in Glasgow.

New Zealand went unbeaten throughout the tournament before defeating Jamaica 56–48 in the final.

Silver Ferns head coach Dame Noeline Taurua said the squad had been selected with an eye on building depth ahead of the 2027 Netball World Cup in Sydney.

“Over the last couple of years, selecting the Silver Ferns squads has become incredibly difficult. There is genuine competition for places, and that is exactly what we want as we continue to build the depth within the Silver Ferns programme.

“This squad has been selected with our eyes firmly on the 2027 Netball World Cup in Sydney. It is about building from the success of the Commonwealth Games, continuing to grow the game and creating the competition for places we need heading into a World Cup year.”

Vixens fans will have the chance to watch the trio in Silver Ferns colours when the Constellation Cup series against the Australian Diamonds comes to Melbourne, with the final Test at John Cain Arena on Wednesday 28 October.
