Moloney, Philip and Watson to lead the Vixens pack

Kate Moloney, Liz Watson and Tegan Philip will retain their positions as leaders of the Melbourne Vixens pack for the 2019 season, their third as the leadership group.

Moloney will remain captain, with Philip and Watson, who was also named in the Samsung Diamonds leadership group, as co-vice captains after a vote by the players and coaching staff.

Philip, who enters her tenth season with the Vixens, said it is an honour to play a part in leading the group.

“Our club has such a rich history and after being here for now ten seasons, to be able to carry that on while taking us through the next era of the Vixens is something I’m proud of and really looking forward to,” said Philip.

“We have a great team with leaders in many ways, so while our names are on the record as the leadership group, there is still plenty of input from the entire squad which really demonstrates our values as a team.”

Vixens head coach, Simone McKinnis says the unchanged leadership group is a reflection on the qualities of the three players.

“Having Kate, Lizzy and Tegan as our leaders for the last two seasons has really developed a culture and set of values that we are not only proud of but are able to live by across the board from players to staff, on and off the court,” said McKinnis.

“We have a great group of players who are all leaders in their own way, so I’m really excited to see where this year takes us.”
