Emily Mannix, who debuted with the Melbourne Vixens during their 2015 ANZ Championship campaign, has been named vice-captain of the Netball Centre of Excellence team.

Mannix and her Netball Centre of Excellence teammates will tour Tasmania and compete in a series of warm-up matches against Scotland and Wales in the lead-up to August’s Netball World Cup in Sydney.

The series, also featuring Australian Netball League side Tassie Spirit, will be played in Hobart and Launceston between 30 July and 2 August.

Melbourne Vixens coach Simone McKinnis believes that the leadership role will suit Mannix.

“I’m really pleased for Emily in her selection as vice captain of the Centre of Excellence team.”

“I think it’s a great opportunity for Emily to develop her leadership skills and continue to grow her confidence as a player,” said McKinnis.

The Netball Centre of Excellence program provides Australia’s future Diamonds with an intensive daily training environment to ensure that the next generation of netballers are prepared for international competition.

21-year-old Mannix is looking forward to the series and the opportunity to grow as a netballer and person.

“The program is designed to test your limits and I don’t doubt that it’s going to be tough. I think that a good netballer never stops learning and I’m excited to develop my skills.”

“It’s an honour to be vice captain and support Taylah Davies as captain. I’m sure we’ll make a good team and really test the international teams out on the court,” said Mannix.

The Centre of Excellence touring party:
Taylah Davies (NSW/NSW Swifts, captain)
Emily Mannix (VIC/Melbourne Vixens, vice-captain)
Toni Anderson (NSW)
Keira Austin (NSW)
Kristina Brice (NSW)
Emily Burgess (South Australia)
Beryl Friday (QLD/Queensland Firebirds)
Hulita Haukinima (QLD)
Annika Lee-Jones (WA)
