Kelsey Browne has been named by the Melbourne Vixens as replacement player for the remainder of the 2015 ANZ Championship.

Browne, 23, hails from Geelong and replaces her older sister Madi Robinson who was ruled out of the Vixens title defence last week with a season ending knee injury.

A training partner with the Vixens throughout 2015, Browne debuted last Sunday against the Queensland Firebirds and said she was excited for the opportunity to play against some of the best netballers in the world.

“I was definitely not expecting to join the team this year, or to be playing in the ANZ Championship but when an opportunity arises, it's something you have to step up and take with both hands,” Browne said.

"Having spent time with the team in preseason and playing with some of girls in state teams, there is that knowledge of game style which does help but there is certainly a lot for me to develop."

"I know that coming into this league I need to prepare myself to step up another level and that goes across everything I do whether it be in training, my preparations off court, or any other opportunity to represent the team.”

Vixens coach Simone McKinnis noted that Browne was able to slot into the side well having spent time with the team throughout the year.

“Kelsey is a naturally gifted netballer and has come through the Netball Victoria pathway with a number of our other Vixens, so for her to join our team on a full time basis, it does feel very smooth,” McKinnis said.

“There were some real positives with what she did when she came on last week against the Firebirds.”

Browne currently plays Championship Division in the Victorian Netball League for Yarra Valley Grammar Ariels and has represented Victoria in state and national competitions.

Robinson suffered a season ending knee injury in Round 6 of the ANZ Championship against the West Coast Fever.
