For the third consecutive year the Melbourne Vixens will open the Suncorp Super Netball season, hosting the Queensland Firebirds at Melbourne Arena in what is now a traditional Round 1 clash, on Saturday 2 May.

The Vixens will come up against some all too familiar faces in Round 1, with former Vixens Lara Dunkley, Ine-Mari Venter and Rudi Ellis all on the opposing side for the 2020 Suncorp Super Netball season.

This blockbuster will headline seven Vixens home games, hosted at both Melbourne and Margaret Court Arenas, in the heart of Melbourne’s sporting precinct. However, eyes will also be on the Vixens for several blockbuster clashes interstate.

Passions will be tested in Round 5 when the Vixens face off against the 2019 Premiers, the NSW Swifts, as Kate Eddy revisits her old stomping ground at Sydney’s Ken Rosewall Arena.

Round 6 will then see the Vixens match up against cross-town rivals – the Collingwood Magpies - in yet another Queen’s Birthday battle on Monday 8 June.

The Vixens will then get the chance to host the Magpies in Round 14 to close out the regular season.

With no major international tournaments scheduled during the Suncorp Super Netball season in 2020, all teams will receive a bye round either prior to or following their Round 8 fixture, with the 2020 Suncorp Super Netball Finals Series scheduled to commence the weekend immediately following Round 14.

The highlights of the 2020 Melbourne Vixens Suncorp Super Netball fixture include:

  • Hosting the opening match of the 2020 Suncorp Super Netball season, against the Queensland Firebirds at Melbourne Arena
  • Seven matches at Melbourne Arena (six home matches, one away match v Magpies)
  • One home match at Margaret Court Arena
  • Nine Vixens matches broadcast on Channel 9 (six home matches, three away matches), with the remaining five matches broadcast on Telstra TV
  • All Vixens home games held at the family-friendly time of 1pm and 3pm across both Saturdays and Sundays
  • Two blockbuster clashes with cross-town rivals the Collingwood Magpies in Round 6 (Queens’s Birthday public holiday) and Round 14 (final round of the regular season)
  • Hosting the GIANTS in Round 9 for Suncorp Super Netball’s Confident Girls Round, in a double-header with the Collingwood Magpies.

Once again 2019 was a record year for Melbourne Vixens memberships, which the club is looking to better again in 2020. Despite memberships going on sale earlier than in previous years – November 1 – a record number of memberships have already been secured in the initial two weeks of the campaign.
