The Melbourne Vixens have advised Ruby Barkmeyer that she has not been offered a contract for the 2025 season.

Bendigo born and raised, the 23-year-old has been a valuable part of the Vixens squad since 2020, and was named in the team of 10 in 2021 after the departure of Caitlin Thwaites and Tegan Philip. Ruby made her debut in Round 1 that year in front of a home crowd before the majority of the season was spent on the road in hubs across Queensland, Sydney and South Australia.

A crafty goaler that exudes court smarts, agility and speed, Ruby has played a supporting role to the Vixens as a squad member, while spearheading her VNL side, Boroondara Express to back-to-back grand final appearances.

An injury late in the 2023 season kept Barkmeyer from competing in last year’s Australian Netball Championships, but she quickly rebounded with a strong season at VNL level, resuming one of the league’s most potent attacking combinations with Bella Hodgson.

Since her 2021 Suncorp Super Netball debut, Barkmeyer has shone in her national league outings.

Melbourne Vixens General Manager – High Performance and Pathways, Megan Simpson thanked Ruby for her time at the club.

“Ruby has grown so much as a player in her time at the Vixens, and we sincerely thank her for her commitment to the squad over the last five seasons,” said Simpson.

Reflecting on her time within the Vixens program, Ruby said:

“I have loved my time at the Vixens both on and off the court. I would like to thank all the girls who I have played alongside for making my time here extra special. I’m looking forward to what’s next”.

We thank Ruby for her contribution to the club and wish her all the best.
