The Melbourne Vixens will make the journey across the Tasman this week as they head to Waitakere City in Auckland to face the Mystics and Northern Stars in the Trans Tasman Challenge.
The new-look Vixens will get their first hit out for 2020 over the weekend at the Trusts Arena, with Tayla Honey returning from a torn Achilles and Kate Eddy making the move back to Melbourne from the NSW Swifts.
Midcourter, Liz Watson said the players are eager to get out on the court after a gruelling few weeks of preseason training.
“All the girls are really excited for the matches in New Zealand. I think we’ve had a good six weeks of training, so to go away and actually see where we’re at and have a few hit-outs against some quality opposition will be really rewarding.”
“It’s a good reassessment for us and to see where we’re at and what we need to work on when we get back into training.”
“Everyone’s just excited to get away and itching for a match.”
The Vixens will come up against Mystics on Friday 14 February at 6pm, before they take on the hosts, Northern Stars on Saturday 15 February at 12pm. A closed match will also be held between the Vixens and the Mystics on Sunday 16 February.
“We’ll be bringing our ten players and putting all our different combinations out there on court. It’ll be great to get some match fitness into us as well.”
“I think it’s a great chance for us to see where we need to go forward and re-evaluate what we’ve been working on and if we can keep doing what we’re doing or if we need to tinker some things.”
“Just having everyone away is always fun and getting to know each other a little bit more, and I’m sure Simone has a few key things for us to work on throughout the games.”
