The Melbourne Vixens are excited to announce Tayla Honey as the piece that completes their puzzle for the 2020 Suncorp Super Netball season.

The signing of the 22-year-old mid-courter completes the Vixens’ ten-strong player line up.

After signing with the Vixens for season 2019, only to suffer a season-ending Achilles tendon tear during pre-season training, Honey was ecstatic about signing on again for 2020.

“I’m absolutely over the moon about signing with the Vixens again for next season. It’s obviously been a really tough year for me, signing and then getting injured and not being able to play, so I’m really, really excited that I get to be a Vixen again.

“It’s been a really up-and-down year for me,” Honey continued. “My physio always tells me that Achilles recoveries are never linear so it can be really tough at times…but being around the team and having them around me all the time has been a really big motivator for me to get back to where they’re at.”

After having surgery in February, Honey is raring to go back out on the netball court.

“I’m feeling good…I’m about eight months into my rehab now, and I’m back running…it’s good to feel like a real athlete again,” she laughed.

Honey credits remaining around the Vixens’ set-up as a factor that aided both her recovery and her motivation.

“In the early days it was really hard,” she said of her time on the sidelines, “but being around the team and going to all the games got easier and easier every time.”

And Honey is optimistic that the team’s as well as her personal fortunes will improve in 2020.

“Obviously this year it was a bit of an up-and-down season…next year I think people will be able to expect some more consistency from us. The good news is that we’ve been able to retain most of the same [playing] group so we’ll be working on those connections, plus it will be great to have Kate Eddy back.”

Tayla Honey is a Victorian born and bred netball talent. Following in the footsteps of her mother Di Honey – who previously played netball for Australia - Honey has played all her junior netball in Victoria, progressing up through the Netball Victoria pathway.

Honey’s career began to take off in 2016, when she was first named as a member of the Victorian Fury team, as well as being a member of the National Championship-winning Victorian U/19 team, and being named in the Australian U/20 National Squad.

Honey first joined the Melbourne Vixens’ family as a Training Partner in 2017, before being signed as a temporary replacement player for the injured Khao Watts in mid-2018. In September 2018 Honey signed on with the Vixens for the 2019 Suncorp Super Netball season, however after sustaining a torn Achilles tendon during pre-season training in February, she was ruled out for the season in its entirety.
