LAST TIME THEY MET
Round 3, 2025
Fever (67) defeated Vixens (57) at John Cain Arena
WHAT TO EXPECT
With third spot and a home final on the line, the Vixens will need to be firing from the first whistle on the green army’s home turf. Sitting two games clear on top of the table, expect Fever to bring a fast start and leverage the crowd's energy at RAC Arena.
The last time they met, the Vixens fell short in a disappointing loss at home. With a point to prove in a long-standing rivalry, the Vixens will need to bring clean and patient ball movement to keep Kadie-Ann Dehaney, Sunday Aryang and Fran Williams away from the Vixens’ own and gained ball. The attacking end will need to use their pace, vision and connection to find the links through Zara Walters and Kiera Austin to Sophie Garbin in the goal circle.
The Vixens play their best netball when all seven players attack and defend, contesting every ball, and with Fever known to look long into Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard, unit defence will be vital. The circle defence will rely on their teammates to work hard down the court to stop the ball transitioning quickly and give them an opportunity to contest in the air. Rudi Ellis starred last week against the Firebirds, banking five gains, four deflections and two intercepts. Should she come up against Fowler-Nembhard, she’ll need to bring that timing and work off the body to confuse the space and create turnovers.
ONE TO WATCH
Known to rise to big occasions, captain Kate Moloney is likely to meet former Vixens training partner Jordan Cransberg in the middle. The pair are well-matched for pace and strength, so Moloney will need to run her opponent around and deliver her trademark composure and re-offers to work the ball to circle edge. The last time they met, Moloney banked 98 Net Points, 24 feeds, 11 goal assists and one intercept; a standout performance in an otherwise tough loss. Moloney’s determination to get her team over the line will be vital this weekend, and she'll need to bring her consistent work rate in defence and on transition against an in-form Fever lineup.
THE NUMBERS
22: In Round 3, Kiera Austin and Sophie Garbin banked 22 goal assists between them. Known for their timing and skilled circle craft, the Diamonds duo will need to work together this week to dictate space and create opportunities for each other. When their connection is clean and firing, the Vixens' ball speed becomes almost impossible to defend.
