The standout midcourt statistics from the Melbourne Vixens’ 2025 championship campaign.
Unit performance
A disciplined midcourt was crucial to securing the Vixens’ second title in the Suncorp Super Netball (SSN) era.
The team’s most experienced player and captain Kate Moloney once again led the way, alongside the dynamic Hannah Mundy and Zara Walters, and 11th player Tara Watson in a clutch debut.
As a unit, the midcourters worked to overcome a slow start to the season and improve the Vixens’ centre pass to goal rate, which was averaging 62.6% after Round 6. From Round 7 on, the team averaged a 76% centre pass to goal rate, boosted by four matches with a rate of over 80%.
The Vixens also tidied up their errors in the second half of the season after three 22+ general play turnover games. Clinical midcourt performances saw this number drop significantly from an average of 20.3 general play turnovers in the first six matches to 15.9 for the rest of the season.
Kate Moloney
Kate Moloney was ever reliable across the 2025 season, ranking 1st in the league for pickups (34) for the fourth time in her SSN career, 3rd for second phase receives (186), and 6th for feeds (414).
She accumulated 1253 Nissan Net Points (NNP) across the season (4th in the league) for an average of 73.7 per match.
Moloney’s season-best performance came in the thrilling preliminary final where she made 121 NNP (the highest NNP match score by a centre this season), 35 feeds, 24 goal assists, and 2 intercepts.
Her leadership was integral to overcoming a challenging start to the season and sending longtime coach Simone McKinnis out on a championship high.
Hannah Mundy
Hannah Mundy played some of her best netball in 2025, despite sitting out six games due to a foot injury.
Round 8 in particular was a match to remember, where Mundy racked up 95.5 NNP (her second highest NNP match score to date) and 40+ feeds for the second time this season and the third time in her career.
Over the 2025 season, Mundy averaged the 4th best NNP match score for wing attack at 58.4 – up on her career average of 38.3.
Mundy made a triumphant return to the court in the grand final to play 23 minutes and claim her first SSN championship.
Zara Walters
In her second season of SSN Zara Walters added more versatility to her game, spending time in wing defence and proving herself a triple threat across all three midcourt positions.
She played 539 minutes (up from 296 in her rookie season), including five consecutive 60-minute matches when Australian Diamonds squad member Mundy was sidelined due to injury.
Walters didn’t miss a beat in these games, recording a career-best 32 centre pass receives in Round 14 – the 2nd equal highest tally in an SSN match this season.
Walters was also a standout in the preliminary final, where she delivered 23 feeds, 19 centre pass receives and 2 pickups, gaining 69.5 NNP in 48 minutes – her 3rd highest NNP score in her career to date.
Tara Watson
20-year-old Tara Watson earned her first SSN contract in 2025 as the Vixens’ 11th player.
She was called into the game day squad on six occasions and debuted in the preliminary final to become Vixen #67.
With only 1 goal assist to Walters’ name in the first 25 minutes of the preliminary final, Watson was injected into the game at wing attack under immense pressure. Her impact was immediate, resulting in 3 goal assists and 1 deflection in her 11 minutes on court.
