Goals
It’s been a big season for Melbourne Vixens starting goalers Sophie Garbin and Kiera Austin as reflected in their individual performances and stats compared to midway through 2025.
Both players have scored more goals in the first seven rounds of this SSN season and at a more accurate rate: 265 goals at 90% for Garbin, and 144 goals for Austin at 80%. Garbin is now the 3rd most accurate goaler in the competition (discounting players with fewer than 5 attempts) – up from 7th this time in 2025.
Austin’s overall improved accuracy is owed to her shooting 28 super shots at 76% – the highest volume and 3rd-best accuracy in the competition – and up from 59% this time last year. Vixens impact goaler Lily Graham technically sits no.1 for super shot accuracy this season having shot 1/1 in her nine minutes on court, and Adelaide Thunderbirds’ Georgie Horjus is second with 5/6 super shots (83.3%).
The Vixens are by far the most accurate team overall for super shots this season at 73.2% (compared to 55% this time last year), ahead of GIANTS Netball in 2nd place on 57.7%.
The ability for Garbin and Austin to mix up their shooting load has proved effective in 2026. In a rare feat for a goal attack, Austin scored the same number of points (30) in Round 1 as Garbin at goal shooter, and outscored her in Round 6 with 30 points to Garbin’s 26. Austin also put up 34 points in Round 4 – the biggest individual shooting haul of any goal attack in an SSN match this season – and has scored the most points overall by a goal attack this season with 172, ahead of GIANTS Netball’s Sophie Dwyer in 2nd with 139 points.
Austin has also been dominant outside the circle, ranking 7th in the league for goal assists with 97 (up from 17th this time in 2025 with 76); and 4th for centre pass receives with 134 (up from 6th with 122 this time in 2025). In Round 4, she achieved the highest Net Points (NP) score by a goal attack this season with 113.5 NP, and her average NP score this season is sitting at a career-high of 65.6.
Garbin’s Net Points scores have also significantly increased since this time last season. She currently sits 7th in the league for overall NP with 515.5 (up from 28th this time in 2025 with 298.5) and holds a season average NP score of 73.6.
Midcourt
In the midcourt, Kate Moloney continues to break personal records 13 years after her debut. Her individual statistics are almost entirely up year on year, including Net Points where she ranks 2nd in the league with 614.5 (compared to 10th last year with 458 NP) for an individual career-high average of 87.8 NP game (up from 65.4 NP last year). She achieved the 3rd highest individual match NP score of her career with 128.5 in Round 2.
Moloney has long dominated the league’s pickups stat and remains at no.1 in the league with 18 pickups, as she did this time last year (with 16 pickups), but she continues to improve on second phase receives (3rd in the league with 77); feeds (9th in the league with 175, up from 12th with 148 this time in 2025); and intercepts (2nd in the league for a predominant centre with 6, up from 3 intercepts this time in 2025).
Hannah Mundy is likewise having a strong season sitting 8th in the league for centre pass receives (110) and equal 9th for goal assists (94). She has also taken the most intercepts (5) of any predominant wing attack this season.
Zara Walters has the most of her limited court time (191 minutes) achieving her 3rd highest individual match NP score of 74.5 in 39 minutes during Round 4.
Defence
Jo Weston is having a season to remember sitting in the league’s top 10 for most defensive stats including no.1 for defensive rebounds with 15 (up from equal 5th with 9 this time in 2025); equal 7th for gains with 27 (up from equal 12th this time in 2025 with 18); and equal 9th for intercepts with 8 (up from 6 this time in 2025). These efforts are reflected in Weston’s Net Points, where she achieved her career-best score of 95.5 in Round 2.
Weston’s defensive rebounds combined with the work by Emily Mannix (8 defensive rebounds), Rudi Ellis (5), and Kate Eddy (4), see the Vixens as the no.1 team for defensive rebounds season with 32 – well up on the team’s haul of 18 (4th best in league) this time in 2025 – and well beyond West Coast Fever who sit 2nd in the league for this stat this season with 23.
Mannix is also impressing in her first season back post maternity leave. With 14 gains and 27 penalties in 152 minutes on court, she has the best penalty-gain ratio of any player in the league.
Eddy has been named player of the match twice (Rounds 6 and 7) so far this season and achieved the 2nd-best NP score of her career with 75.5 in Round 2.
Team efforts
As the only undefeated team in the league (compared to three wins on the board this time in 2025), it’s no surprise the Vixens’ team efforts are up year on year.
With four Vixens players in the top 10 for minutes played this season (up from two players this time in 2025), new head coach Di Honey is opting for an experienced lineup to close out matches.
Team stats have improved across the board, with two Vixens making the league’s top 10 for feeds, defensive rebounds, and goal assists – up from one player for each of these stats this time in 2025.
The team has also improved their centre-pass-to-goal rate, which is now sitting at 74.1% (compared to 65.5% this time in 2025 – the worst in the league); and they have the 4th-best unforced turnover-to-goal rate at 71.3% (compared 62.7% this time in 2025 – the 2nd worst in the league).
The Vixens also hold the highest gain-to-goal rate in a single match of any team this season, hitting 91.7% in Round 5 against the NSW Swifts.
Finally, the Vixens have scored the 2nd-most points overall this season (442), just 1 point behind the NSW Swifts sitting 7th on the ladder.
