Five Victorians, including two Melbourne Vixens, have been selected in Netball Australia’s Development Squad announced today.

Emily Mannix (Vixens), Kate Moloney (Vixens), Alice Teague-Neeld (Fever), Matilda Garrett (Magpies) and Gabby Sinclair (Magpies) will join 15 other Suncorp Super Netball athletes in Netball Australia’s newest initiative to develop the nation’s next crop of potential Samsung Diamonds in preparation for the 2022 Commonwealth Games and 2023 Netball World Cup.

The program, that has been made possible with the support of Commonwealth Games Australia, is made up of a team of 14 athletes that will face New Zealand A and England A in a tournament in Auckland next month, along with an additional six athletes that round out the squad.

Netball Victoria’s General Manager – Vixens, Performance and Pathways, Rebekah Webster congratulated the selected athletes.

“We’re thrilled to have five athletes who have progressed through the Victorian pathway selected in Netball Australia’s Development Squad,” said Webster.

“To represent your country is something all netballers work towards, so this initiative is a fantastic opportunity for these athletes to develop in the Diamonds environment.

“With Emily and Kate’s experience on the international stage, there is no doubt their leadership will be an asset to the group.

“They’ll get to consolidate their strong in-season performances against high calibre, international opposition. We’re excited for them to show what they can do.”

The group will gather for the first time at a training camp at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra from 2-4 October before departing for New Zealand for a round robin competition against New Zealand A and England A from 5-9 October.
