The Premiership-winning defence end remains intact for the 2021 Suncorp Super Netball season, with Kate Eddy committing to the Melbourne Vixens for another year.

Eddy was sensational in her debut season for the Vixens, cementing herself as the team’s starting wing defence, as well as swinging back to goal defence – a switch that was made with Jo Weston – as required. Eddy also tied for second place in the Sharelle McMahon Medal with Weston.

Eddy was recently named in Netball Australia’s 2020/21 National Development Squad for the first time, rewarding her impressive season that showcased her strength and presence around the goal circle and ability to cause game-changing opposition turnovers.

Netball Victoria’s General Manager – Vixens, Performance & Pathways, Rebekah Webster, believes Eddy’s return to Victoria has paid dividends for both the Vixens squad and her own professional development.

“This year has obviously been Kate’s first year with us as a contracted player, but as she has come up through the Netball Victoria pathway she already knew a lot of the athletes and staff well, so it’s been great to see her slot into the team without missing a beat,” Webster said.

“Kate showed immense resilience, particularly through the final series, to put her body on the line for her teammates. It truly is a reflection of her character, and her passion for the game and willingness to perform at the highest standard is something that stems right throughout our system,” Webster continued.

She joins 2020 Sharelle McMahon Medallist, Kate Moloney, 2020 Grand Final MVP, Mwai Kumwenda, plus Emily Mannix, Kadie-Ann Dehaney, Jo Weston and Liz Watson of current Vixens contracted for 2021.
