Melbourne Vixens and Australian Diamonds defender Jo Weston has claimed her first Suncorp Super Netball club best and fairest award, crowned the 2025 Sharelle McMahon Medallist on Saturday night.
Named after netball legend Sharelle McMahon in 2014, the medal is the club’s highest individual honour, awarded to the Vixens’ most valuable player each year as voted by the coaching panel.
Weston’s exceptional form and consistency throughout the 2025 season was rewarded by the voting panel, the 31-year-old polling in 13 of 14 home and away matches to win with a total of 66 votes, ahead of runner up, club captain Kate Moloney (51 votes).
With a season total of 50 deflections, 41 gains, 29 pickups and 15 intercepts, alongside – much to the delight of Vixens fans – four goal assists, Weston finished the season with the most minutes played of any athlete in the league.
Weston’s reliability and determination played a critical role in the Vixens’ resurgence from a rocky start to the season, ultimately delivering a fairytale finish in last Saturday night’s Grand Final and sending outgoing head coach Simone McKinnis out on top.
