The Melbourne Vixens are packing their bags this pre-season and heading to Bendigo for a blockbuster weekend of netball from 11-12 February.

Heading into season 2023 the Vixens will host three Super Netball sides – GIANTS Netball, Adelaide Thunderbirds and Sunshine Coast Lightning – at Bendigo’s Red Energy Arena thanks to the support of the Victorian Government, McCafé and the City of Greater Bendigo.

Saturday will open with a Victorian Men’s League curtain raiser showcasing the exciting talent in our men’s pathway. The GIANTS will then take on the Thunderbirds before the Vixens’ first hit out against the Lightning.

Sunday will offer another opportunity for fans to see their idols in action as the Thunderbirds face the Lightning and the Vixens take on the GIANTS.

There will also be plenty of off-court action – Netball Victoria will coordinate a series of community activities across the weekend, giving local netball fans a chance to meet to some of their favourite Vixens athletes, and run netball programs throughout the school term to help bring our game to the next generation of Victorian netballers.

The festival of netball also caters for aspiring umpires and coaches with numerous courses on offer across the weekend to give participants a hands-on experience.

The two pre-season matches will play a key role in the Vixens’ preparation ahead of Round 1, a Grand Final rematch against West Coast Fever at RAC Arena on Saturday 18 March as they look to go one better in season 2023.

“We’re excited to be heading to Bendigo as part of our preseason preparations and we are looking forward to competing against quality opposition ahead of the 2023 season,” said General Manager Vixens, Performance & Pathways, Megan Simpson.

It’s a great opportunity to bring elite netball events to regional areas, showcasing the Melbourne Vixens and enabling athletes to engage with our Victorian netball community.”
