Melbourne Vixens defender, Emily Mannix will miss the two weeks of Suncorp Super Netball’s Indigenous round with a fractured knuckle.

Mannix injured her hand during the Vixens’ game against the Giants last week and has been monitored by Vixens’ medical staff since.

Rahni Samason has been named on the team list for Saturday’s game against the Queensland Firebirds, having recently signed a training partner contract with the Vixens.

Assistant coach, Sharelle McMahon revealed the news on tonight’s episode of Vixens Live.

“While that’s sad news for our defence end and certainly for Em, it provides an opportunity for Rahni Samason who has been a part of the Vixens group for a few years now,” said McMahon.

“It’s really exciting news for Rahni, and really bolsters our shooting stocks for this week.

“We’re trying to keep the positivity up (in the goal circle) and look at the things that were going well, but the reality is we do need to have a lift, and in all areas of the court but the shooting circle is certainly one of those places that we need a lift from.”

The Vixens will face the Queensland Firebirds at Nissan Arena in Brisbane tomorrow in the first week of Suncorp Super Netball’s Indigenous Round.

The Vixens travelled to Brisbane on Wednesday, two days earlier than expected as Victoria’s Covid-19 situation worsened. The club is working closely with the league around movements after round 5.
