LAST TIME THEY MET
Round 9, 2024
Vixens (77) defeated Mavericks (58) at John Cain Arena

WHAT TO EXPECT
This Sunday marks the third cross-town rivalry meet, with both sides looking to build momentum after tough starts to their seasons. Expect a physical contest and competitive match-ups in every third at John Cain Arena.

At one end, in-form goaler Shimona Jok will be looking to continue her form from last week, and with a strong performance from second-gamer Maggie Caris fresh on her mind alongside the 190cm Rudi Ellis, coach Simone McKinnis has options at her disposal to combat the high ball.

At the other end, Kiera Austin will be aiming to pick up where she left off from last year’s clash with the Mavs where she nailed 7/7 super shots, as she prepares to square up against Kim Brown (née Jenner) in GD. Sophie Garbin shot 51 goals at 91% in the same clash, and with limited height in the opposition's defensive lineup Garbin's feeders will be looking to her as a strong target at the post.

The Vixens are yet to fall to the Mavericks, and they'll be out for redemption after a disappointing 10-goal loss last weekend. From centre pass conversion to goals from gains, for the Vixens it will be a matter of capitalising on every opportunity as they look to maintain last week's defensive efforts and improve their ball use under pressure.

ONE TO WATCH
Diamonds squad midcourters Hannah Mundy and Amy Parmenter will no doubt put on a show should the two meet on the transverse line.

Mundy has banked 91 feeds so far in 2025, while Parmenter has 7 intercepts to her name from three hitouts. It’ll be a display of speed and work rate in the midcourt, as Mundy will need to demand her space on the circle edge and stay clear of Parmenter's hands-over pressure to deliver clean ball to her shooters.

With both athletes in fine form this season, their determination and strength in the contest is something a packed John Cain Arena can look forward to.

THE NUMBER
129: Last time they met Kiera Austin showed her dominance in attack and defence, racking up 129 Nissan Net Points. Banking 21 goal assists, 24 feeds and 2 gains, Austin proved herself a natural under the derby pressure, and will be difficult to stop should she return to that form on Sunday afternoon.
