A four hour plane ride is the trek the Vixens will take in a quest for their fourth straight win in as many weeks, with West Coast Fever their next challenge.

Fever have not managed to win a game this year, and could be without captain Courtney Bruce for the third week.

Defender Jo Weston said the team hasn’t let their successful start to the season soften their approach to this week’s game against last year’s runners-up, Fever, particularly in the circle against Jamaican sensation Jhaniele Fowler.

“We’ve won all three of our games which has been great, but Fever are going to be pretty tough competition, they were finalists last year, so we know it’s going to be quite the battle,” said Weston.

“It’s always a challenge when you come up against such a tall shooting target, so we’re going to work on stopping the ball from getting to her in the first place.

“That puts a big task ahead of myself, Renae and Kate, all playing in that midcourt defensive type of role and then once it gets in the circle, just jumping really high.”

Having only dropped one quarter for the year, the Vixens’ focus for 2019 has been those bonus points for quarters won and that will be a factor in this week’s game given second placed Swifts have only dropped two.

“One of our main focusses this year has been to be consistent and with that comes a four-quarter performance.

“Last year we actually missed out on finals because of our lack of accumulating bonus points throughout the season so we know too well how that feels and are planning to rectify that.”

The Vixens game will be shown on Telstra TV and the Netball Live app.

The Vixens next home game will be next Sunday, 26 May against NSW Swifts. Purchase tickets here.
