The Melbourne Vixens have announced their 2023 captains with Kate Moloney and Liz Watson to lead the club once again as co-captains, supported by vice captain Emily Mannix.

Moloney and Watson have been appointed by their teammates and club staff to share the captaincy for the fourth year running.

“It’s a privilege to lead the Vixens, especially alongside Lizzy and Em,” Moloney said. “I love working with them both, I think we each bring something different in our leadership styles and having the support of the whole group makes it extra special.”

“Knowing this has come from the playing group gives us a lot of confidence and pride,” Watson said. “It’s a big responsibility to lead this club and none of us take the honour lightly – we all love pulling on the navy dress and we have a lot to be excited about as a group heading into this season.”

Preliminary final hero and fan favourite Mannix will step back into the vice captaincy role in her ninth year at the club.

“Kate and Lizzy have been such strong leaders in this group for a long time, I’m really proud to be joining them,” she said. “We all know each other really well on and off the court which I think has helped us to build our culture and develop as leaders as well.”

“We can’t wait to get out there in Round 1. We’ve got some great depth in our squad and after a long pre-season we’re really excited to play in front of our fans again this year and try to go one better.”

The Vixens’ 2023 campaign kicks off against West Coast Fever at RAC Arena in Perth on Saturday 18 March.

We take on the Magpies in the Victorian Derby in Round 2, before we host our first home game at John Cain Arena in Round 3, against the GIANTS on Sunday 2 April.
