Melbourne Vixens goaler Rahni Samason has announced she will depart the club and join the Robinhood Stars in Aotearoa New Zealand’s ANZ Premiership in 2024.
A product of the Victorian netball pathway, Samason joined the Vixens as a training partner in 2018 and earned her first full-time Super Netball contract in 2022, playing 11 games with the club following her memorable debut as a temporary replacement player in 2021.
“Rahni has been an important part of our pathway and our team for a significant period of time, and we’re proud of what she has achieved during her time with us,” said General Manager Vixens, Performance & Pathways Megan Simpson. “While we’re sad to farewell Rahni, this is a fantastic opportunity for her and we’re excited to see her continue her development with the Robinhood Stars.”
“Rahni has contributed a lot to our team environment over the past two seasons despite the unfortunate run she’s had with injuries restricting her court time,” said Head Coach Simone McKinnis. “We congratulate Rahni on this new opportunity and look forward to watching her take the court with the Robinhood Stars in 2024.”
“The last two seasons have had many highs and lows but I will always be grateful to Simone and the Vixens family for the opportunity to play in the SSN,” said Samason. “I’m eager and excited to be joining the Stars whānau in 2024, showcasing my heritage and representing my family back in New Zealand.”
