Kate Eddy departs the Melbourne Vixens

The Melbourne Vixens and Kate Eddy have confirmed that the defender will leave the club following the conclusion of the 2026 Suncorp Super Netball season.

Eddy, Vixens player #49, has been an important part of Melbourne’s defensive end since joining the club in 2020. Her speed, discipline and versatility across wing defence and goal defence have made her a valued member of the team and a respected player across the competition.

A two-time Suncorp Super Netball premiership player with the Melbourne Vixens and Victorian Fury premiership player, Eddy has enjoyed an outstanding career at the elite level. A graduate of Victoria’s netball pathway, she leaves the Vixens having made 101 appearances for the club as part of her 123-game Suncorp Super Netball career.

Eddy’s contribution to the Vixens extended beyond her on-court performance, with her selfless approach, competitiveness and commitment to her teammates highly valued by everyone at the club. Her impact was recognised this season when she was awarded the Player’s Player Award at the 2026 Sharelle McMahon Medal.

Netball Victoria CEO Andrea Pearman said:

“We would have loved to have kept Kate Eddy playing for the Melbourne Vixens and are disappointed this isn’t the case. She has our deep gratitude for her contribution to this team and we are excited to support her in an off-court role at Netball Victoria while she continues to pursue her playing career.”

Melbourne Vixens head coach Di Honey also thanked Eddy for her contribution to the club.

“Kate has been such an important part of our defensive unit and our team over the past seven seasons. Her work rate, competitiveness and ability to read the play have made her an incredibly valuable player and teammate,” said Honey.

“We thank her for everything she has contributed to the club, both on and off the court, and know our members and fans will join us in wishing her well for the future.”

Eddy said she was proud of her time with the Vixens.

“The Vixens have been such an important part of my career and have felt like home over the past seven seasons. I’m incredibly proud of everything we have achieved together and grateful for the people who have supported me throughout my time at the club,” said Eddy.

“I am heartbroken that it has ended this way, but I will always be proud to have represented the Vixens, our members and the Victorian netball community.”
