Emerging midcourter, Hannah Mundy has been named as a temporary replacement player for the Melbourne Vixens’ round 1 match against West Coast Fever this Saturday.
Mundy will fill the spot made vacant by Liz Watson, who will miss the 2021 Suncorp Super Netball season due to a foot injury.
A product of Netball Victoria’s pathway, 19-year-old Mundy was named in the Vixens squad this year and has represented Victoria in both 17/U and 19/U teams at the National Netball Championships, played in a Victorian Netball League 19/U premiership for Boroondara Express, and was a member of Victorian Fury’s 2019 premiership squad.
Head coach Simone McKinnis welcomed Hannah’s elevation to the team for the first round of Suncorp Super Netball, after impressing coaches across the pre-season.
“I’m really happy for Hannah to be taking the step up this week after her hard work over the last few months in building rapport and connections with Kate (Moloney) and our goalers,” said McKinnis.
“We have developing talent through our midcourt and wanted to promote from within to continue to build that depth and allow us to continue to work with our extended squad.
“At this stage, Hannah is a temporary replacement player, and we will continue to work on the combinations in our squad that will help us have the strongest start to the season.”
The Melbourne Vixens will begin their title defense in round 1 of Suncorp Super Netball this Saturday, 1 May.
The Vixens will host West Coast Fever in a grand final rematch at John Cain Arena, with tickets available through Ticketek.
