LAST TIME THEY MET
Round 7, 2022
Vixens (60) defeated by Magpies (70) at John Cain Arena
WHAT TO EXPECT
After going down to our crosstown rivals in Round 7, there is plenty of anticipation heading into the final game of the home and away season as we look to even the ledger.
Back at John Cain Arena after a week on the road we’re eager to put out a solid four quarter performance and build momentum heading into finals. Mwai Kumwenda will be hoping to dominate the circle in attack up against the experience of Geva Mentor.
Both teams pack plenty of punch and experience through the midcourt with Molly Jovic, Kelsey Browne and Ash Brazill leading the way for Collingwood while our trio of stars in Liz Watson, Kate Moloney and Kate Eddy are all up for the task. Excitement machine Hannah Mundy is another great option, the pocket rocket able to burst onto the court through all three midcourt roles and have an impact.
Dynamic duo Jo Weston and Emily Mannix have been in fine form, once again proving that they can step up in the dying minutes of the game and deliver. The hops and elevation of Olivia Lewis is also a bonus to our back end, especially when trying to combat the aerial presence of Magpies shooter Shimona Nelson. Our defensive end will have to be on their A-game against a versatile Collingwood attack unit with Nelson, Gabby Sinclair and Sophie Garbin all strong options.
ONE TO WATCH
The contest between Kiera Austin and Jodi-Ann Ward is going to be a thriller. Both players are barometers for their respective sides, able to change the momentum within the blink of an eye. Austin has been integral under the post and through the midcourt thanks to her defensive nous while Ward is renowned for her closing speed and tenacity to reel in those aerial balls.
