LAST TIME THEY MET

Round 1, 2023

Fever (62) defeated Vixens (61) at RAC Arena

WHAT TO EXPECT

Facing off in the first round of the 2023 SSN season, there was clearly no love lost in the grand final rematch between the Vixens and Fever in what turned out to be a nail-biting contest.

Despite a strong start from the Fever, the Vixens never gave up the fight winning the last three quarters. Kiera Austin sank two super shots to level the scores late in the piece, but the Fever timed their last centre pass to perfection, ensuring their victory by a single goal.

Expect another fierce competition as the Vixens look to keep their undefeated record at home this year, and to prove that John Cain Arena is once again their fortress. The midcourt unit will look to capitalise on their connections to transition the ball down court smoothly, knowing Fever's mids will be working tirelessly to disrupt the flow and delivery of ball to the circle - particularly from Liz Watson who has been dominating circle edge with her trademark precision feeds this season.

ONE TO WATCH

Jhaniele Fowler leads the competition in both goals and Nissan Net Points, but she’ll face a challenge from her former teammate Liv Lewis. Liv has grown in confidence since their last meeting, putting out some stellar performances against goalers with similar shooting styles, including claiming MVP in last week’s four-quarter performance against the Firebirds’ Donnell Wallam.

THE NUMBER

272: MJ Kumwenda currently sits fifth in the competition for goals scored, with 272 to her name so far. Her reliability under the post has been invaluable for the Vixens in high-pressure moments, and she'll need to maintain that composure against Fever’s tough defensive unit of Courtney Bruce, Sunday Aryang and Kim Jenner.
