Three Melbourne Vixens athletes have been named in the Australian Diamonds team of 12 set to compete in the upcoming Netball World Cup in Cape Town, South Africa.

Vixens co-captain Liz Watson will once again captain the Diamonds in their World Cup campaign. Dominating her side's feeds and goal assists tallies across the SSN season, Watson has moved seamlessly between wing attack and centre this year and continues to prove her strength as a natural leader and consistent force in the midcourt.

Jo Weston will also don the green and gold once again, the experienced defender bringing a wealth of knowledge and established connections to the Diamonds’ defence end. Weston’s versatility, dogged style and ability to read the play have made her a shining asset for the Diamonds since her debut in 2015.

After returning to the international stage last year following an ACL injury, Kiera Austin has cemented her place in the Diamonds’ goal circle. Her creativity and accuracy under the post, alongside her ability to swing into wing attack, adds another layer of depth to the squad.

Kate Moloney will also travel to Cape Town with the squad as a reserve. The Vixens co-captain has showcased her experience and versatility in recent weeks, her adaptability in centre or wing defence proving she can make an impact from either position if called upon.

Under new World Netball rules, the three reserve players can be promoted into the playing list of 12 as permanent replacement players. Once an athlete in the playing list has been permanently replaced, they cannot return to play in the tournament.

The Diamonds will head into camp on 10 July following the SSN Grand Final. The World Cup begins on Friday 28 July in Cape Town, with finals taking place on Sunday 6 August.
