Constellation Cup returns to Australian soil

The Australian Diamonds have won the 2025 Constellation Cup against the Silver Ferns, with an over-time battle sealing the title.

Despite both teams winning two matches each for the series, the Diamonds have claimed the title based on goals scored across the four tests.

In one of netball’s fiercest rivalries, the highly anticipated match ups between the Diamonds and Silver Ferns saw matches hosted at John Cain Arena in Melbourne, Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, then Globox Arena in Hamilton, New Zealand and finishing off at Wolfbrook Arena in Christchurch New Zealand.

Three Vixens made appearances on court, with Sophie Garbin (1000 international goals) and Kiera Austin (500 goals) tallying milestones to make the series win a little bit sweeter.

A strong 69-52 win in the first test marked the Diamonds’ highest ever score against the Silver Ferns. They followed that up with another win over the Ferns in game two, however fell short in front of a strong New Zealand home crowd in game three, opening the final match as the decider.

Despite the Silver Ferns winning the fourth match 57-62, over-time was required to determine the series winner.

With the series now concluded, here’s how our Vixens performed:

KIERA AUSTIN
Minutes played: 140 minutes
Key stats: 60/73, 41 feeds and 32 goal assists.
Austin held strong in the first match, producing 27 goals and 19 feeds. As per usual Austin and fellow Vixen Sophie Garbin had unmatchable chemistry, which is always a thrill to watch, with Austin having no challenge shooting from range.

SOPHIE GARBIN
Minutes played: 161 minutes
Key stats: 104/119,13 goal assists, 17 feeds and 11 rebounds.
Garbin led the Diamonds, shooting the opening goal of the series. Sealing 42 goals from 45 attempts in the opening match she was unstoppable under the post. Garbin had an overall 87% accuracy rate throughout the series, making her a key part of the Diamonds attack.

KATE MOLONEY
Minutes played: 180 minutes
Key stats: 35 goal assists, 105 feeds.
The vice-captain brought the intensity in the midcourt, producing 56 goal assists for the series. Moloney was a driving force in the throughout the series, tallying 22 goal assists and 34 feeds in the opening match. She continued to play an attacking style of netball, making her presence known which was evident as she achieved player of the match in match one.

With the South Africa Series and Constellation Cup now complete, the Diamonds’ 2025 international series has now concluded.

The Vixens in the Diamonds squad will now take time off before returning to the Vixens’ environment in preparation for the 2026 Suncorp Super Netball season.
