With The Fox Hunt Podcast on hiatus this week (don’t worry, it’ll be back next week!), we decided to crunch the numbers a little bit differently after our Round 12 victory against Sunshine Coast Lightning.

The First Nations Round clash encompassed plenty of standout individual performances and team milestones that helped guide us to our tenth win of the season.

Team:

We put out a phenomenal team effort and it showed on the stats sheet, recording our equal highest number of gains – 20 – for the season. Five of the eight players that took the court registered a gain, showcasing their defensive intent across the full 60 minutes.

Defence:

The defensive duo of Jo Weston and Emily Mannix had a game to remember, collecting seven gains apiece. This statistical feat has only happened one other time this year with crosstown rivals Collingwood Magpies racking up the same stats in Round 12. Weston and Mannix were superb in defence quelling the influence of Steph Wood, Cara Koenen and Reilley Batcheldor as they worked in overdrive to get hands to ball first. Mannix asserted herself on the contest early, picking up three of her seven gains in the opening 15 minutes while Weston got to work in the second collecting three gains.

Individual performance:

Liz Watson had another stellar game recording 40 or more circle feeds for the ninth time this season. No other player has had this many games with 40+ feeds, making her number one in the league for this stat. In the first quarter alone, Watson recorded an impressive 14 feeds highlighting her dominance through the midcourt and on circle edge.
