LAST TIME THEY MET
Round 6, 2022
Vixens (53) defeated Thunderbirds (47) at John Cain Arena
WHAT TO EXPECT
After two weeks at home, we hit the road again to take on the Thunderbirds. With finals around the corner, it’s all on the line as we look to further solidify our standing on top of the table.
Coming off an MVP performance, Emily Mannix will be eager to maintain that defensive intent against South African star Lenize Potgieter. The Thunderbirds will be hoping that Georgie Horjus and Tippah Dwan can stand up in the super shot period, but will have to get past the long arms of Jo Weston, Mannix and Olivia Lewis.
Co-captains Kate Moloney and Liz Watson have continued their formidable partnership through the midcourt while Hannah Mundy is also an explosive option off the bench. Adelaide boasts a highly versatile midcourt with Hannah Petty, Maisie Nankivell and Tayla Williams able to rotate through with Horjus another option in wing attack. Meanwhile, former Vixen Elle McDonald will be hoping to draw upon her insider knowledge to get an edge to help her side forge ahead.
Kiera Austin has proven to not only be a sharpshooter inside the circle but a strong defensive option, regularly picking up intercepts through the centre third. She will be hoping to keep the likes of Latanya Wilson and Matilda Garrett busy.
ONE TO WATCH
The contest between Shamera Sterling and Mwai Kumwenda will be the one to watch with the pair both renowned for their aerial capacity. MJ is a formidable force with her strong holds and accuracy to post, while Sterling is a real menace in the air with her leap and read of the game often disrupting the play, making for an enthralling contest.
