Defender Kate Eddy sustained a lower leg injury against the NSW Swifts in Round 5 and will miss the Melbourne Vixens’ Round 6 clash with Sunshine Coast Lightning on Saturday.
Vixens squad members Ruby Barkmeyer and Gabby Coffey will join the game day team as midcourter Zara Walters continues her recovery from a lower back injury. Eleventh player Emily Andrew has also been selected to join the team in place of fellow shooter Lily Graham.
“It’s disappointing to lose an athlete of Kate’s calibre, and while unfortunately we expect her injury will keep her sidelined for a number of weeks, she’s in great hands with our medical team,” said General Manager High Performance & Pathways, Megan Simpson.
“Kate will continue to contribute and play a key role as part of our group, and we look forward to welcoming her back on court when the time comes.
“The upside of these situations is the opportunity for squad members like Ruby and Gabby, and Emily as our eleventh player, to gain valuable experience as part of our game day team.
“We’re proud of the depth and talent coming through the Victorian pathway and we know Vixens fans will be excited to see our squad members stepping up.”
