Melbourne Vixens defender Jo Weston will miss the side’s Round 1 match against West Coast Fever on Saturday night as she continues her recovery from injury.

Squad member Gabby Coffey will travel to Perth in Weston’s place, alongside fellow squad member Ruby Barkmeyer who will join the team for Round 1 in the absence of injured goaler Rahni Samason.

“Gabby and Ruby have been training well throughout the pre-season and gaining valuable experience as part of our group,” said General Manager Vixens, Performance & Pathways Megan Simpson.

“We’re proud of the depth in our squad and we’re confident both athletes will step up and play their role for the team this weekend. Gabby and Ruby each bring a great work ethic and positive energy to our environment, so this is an exciting and well-deserved opportunity for them both.”

The Vixens will travel to Perth with an extended squad, including squad members Sharni Lambden and Emily Andrew.

The club is continuing to work through the temporary replacement player process for Samason and will make a further announcement in due course.
