The Melbourne Vixens' newest faces have impressed in game one of Suncorp Super Netball's pre-season tournament.
Six months of pre-season was put to the test tonight as the Vixens took to the court against the Queensland Firebirds, kicking off their 2019 campaign.
While the majority are familiar faces, Vixens fans were introduced to South African goaler, Ine-Mari Venter and squad member Lara Dunkley, while Caitlin Thwaites looked right at home in her new colours.
A tight first quarter saw a shaky Vixens side, with the Firebirds holding a two-goal lead. The Vixens managed to find momentum in the second, leading by one at the main break.
The introduction of Venter to the goal ring and Dunkley to the centre in the third quarter allowed the Vixens a dominant 18-3 third quarter which set them up for the second half.
The rotations of Kadie-Ann Dehaney, Emily Mannix, Jo Weston and Renae Ingles in defence proved unbreakable as the Vixens took the win, 53-32.
Goaler Ine-Mari Venter impressed in her first hit-out with the Vixens.
"I was a bit nervous before the game, but it was so good to finally be out there with these girls," said Venter.
"To be putting our pre-season preparation into practice felt really good, and to have the likes of Kate and Liz there for me, encouraging me and making me feel comfortable out there, I'm just so happy to be here."
