Goaler Rahni Samason has secured her first full time Suncorp Super Netball contract, signing on with the Melbourne Vixens for season 2022.

As a temporary replacement player for three games this year, the 23 year old is already no stranger to the big stage, having debuted against Queensland Firebirds in round 5 and sinking a super shot after the siren in the Vixens’ first win of the 2021 season.

Across her three games, Samason managed 57 goals from 69 attempts at 83% playing both goal shooter and goal attack.

Samason is a product of the Victorian netball pathway, having featured in teams and programs such as the Victorian Netball League, Victorian Fury (winning league and team MVP in 2018), Vixens Academy and as a Vixens squad member since 2018.

“It’s such an honour and I’m really excited to officially join the Vixens next season,” said Samason.

“I’ve been a part of the Vixens environment for a few years now as a squad member, and travelling with the team this year, so I know the club’s values are aligned to the culture I want to be a part of, so I’m thrilled to be a part of that next year.

“I’ve taken away a lot of learnings from my time, particularly this year being able to work with Simone and the team so closely. I know that we’re onto something pretty special in this next stage and I’m really excited to play my role in that.”

Samason joins Vixens’ returnees in Kate Moloney, Liz Watson, Jo Weston and Emily Mannix who have already committed to the club.

The next signing will be announced on Monday.
