Three Melbourne Vixens athletes have been selected in the Samsung Australian Diamonds team to contest the 2018 Quad Series, in the lead-up to the Commonwealth Games.
Liz Watson, Jo Weston and Kate Moloney have all been selected to represent Australia in the series against New Zealand, England and South Africa, after impressing in recent Diamonds outings.
All three players were a part of the Diamonds’ series white-wash against the New Zealand Silver Ferns in the Constellation Cup last month.
Making her debut in the Constellation Cup, Moloney impressed in her two matches, earning herself a spot in the team for the upcoming series.
After initially missing selection for the two recent Diamonds tours, Moloney was called-up into the team after their Quad Series loss to the Silver Ferns.
Making the most of her time on court, Moloney was a standout for the Diamonds and later selected as Captain of the Australian Fast5 team, which finished third in the World Series last weekend.
Watson and Weston’s selections follow an incredible year for the two players, both being recognised at the Melbourne Vixens’ Sharelle McMahon Medal – Watson awarded the Sharelle McMahon Medal and Weston Melbourne Vixens Player of the Finals.
Netball Victoria Chief Executive Officer, Rosie King, said she is thrilled to see the three Melbourne Vixens athletes in the team.
“It’s so exciting to have three Vixens form part of the Australian Diamonds team for the upcoming Quad Series,” said King.
“We are so proud of Kate, Liz and Jo – they all work so hard and had fantastic Suncorp Super Netball seasons, as well impressing during the Constellation Cup and recent Quad Series.”
The entire 2017/18 Diamonds Squad will come together at the Netball Centre of Excellence at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra, from 11 to 14 January for a Commonwealth Games Simulation Camp, before the 14 Quad Series athletes travel to England.
