Mannix called into Diamonds Quad Series Team

Melbourne Vixens rising star Emily Mannix has been called into the Diamonds Netball Quad Series team, after being named in the 2017/18 Squad for the first time.

The 23-year-old replaces defender Sharni Layton in the team, who is a late withdrawal due to exhaustion.

Mannix’s call up follows an outstanding Suncorp Super Netball season, which saw her finish runner-up to fellow Quad Series member, Liz Watson, in the Sharelle McMahon Medal.

Melbourne Vixens Head Coach, Simone McKinnis OAM believes it is a great opportunity for Mannix.

“The exposure in being a part of the international series is an exciting opportunity and I am sure she will make the most of it,” said McKinnis.

Mannix’s call up takes the Melbourne Vixens representation to four, the most of any club.

Layton will take a leave of absence from netball, after extensive consultation with a group of medical experts.

Samsung Diamonds coach, Lisa Alexander said, “First and foremost we have a duty of care to the wellbeing of our athletes. Sharni has represented and led our country with her heart on her sleeve, but is in need of a break. Our medical and support staff will continue to work closely with Sharni during this time.”

The Diamonds will gather on the Sunshine Coast from 22 August, before opening the Netball Quad Series in Brisbane on 26 August against the England Roses. Limited tickets available via ticketek.com.au
