Melbourne Vixens 2017 midcourt recruit, Khao Watts will be sidelined, following surgery today on her right knee.
Watts’ start to the season has been impacted by an ongoing issue with her right knee, which has seen the midcourter only make one on-court appearance with the Vixens in Round 4.
Head Coach, Simone McKinnis made the announcement and spoke about the good news that Watts’ season isn’t over yet.
“Khao has had an ongoing right knee issue since early in the season, which we have been managing. However, following further advice earlier this week she has today undergone an arthroscope,” said McKinnis.
“Depending on her recovery, all going well we are hopeful of Khao making a return later in the season.”
McKinnis spoke of the need for Watts’ to focus on her recovery and rehabilitation now, and not put deadlines or undue pressure on herself to return quickly.
“Now, it is about her recovery.
“I know how dedicated Khao is and how keen she’ll be to get back out there with the team, so that is what we will be working towards over the coming weeks. But there is no pressure, while we’d love to have her back on-court, she needs to do what she needs to, to be back to 100%,” said McKinnis.
The club’s List Management Committee has confirmed training partner, Tayla Honey will be called into the Vixens squad of 10 for Round 6 of Suncorp Super Netball, with decisions for future weeks expected to be made ongoing.
Watts joined the Vixens list this year, after being recruited in the off-season from the Adelaide Thunderbirds.
