Vixens out to make it two from two

The Battle continues in Round 7 of Suncorp Super Netball, as cross-town rivals the Melbourne Vixens and Magpies Netball rematch their opening round clash.

The Vixens claimed early bragging rights, winning the first match against the star-studded team, 58 – 55, and are looking to make it two wins from two matches this weekend.

The last match was a thrilling encounter, with the lead changing multiple times throughout the match, and both teams leading by as much as four goals at different stages.

But it was the Vixens who prevailed after a strong third-quarter effort.

It was a battle of the attacking lines in the first game, with Tegan Philip for the Vixens named Most Valuable Player for the match, whilst Magpies’ shooter, Caitlin Thwaites, shot 47 of her team’s 55 goals.

The shooter combination of Philip and Mwai Kumwenda continues to grow, with the pair sharing the scoring, and both players featuring in the top eight of the competition for goals scored.

The Magpies have one addition to their team since their last encounter with the Vixens, with Cody Lange returning to the team after missing the Round 1 clash.

Both teams are coming-off wins in their Round 6 matches – the Magpies one-goal victors over the NSW Swifts and the Vixens triumphant over competition leaders, GIANTS Netball.

Sitting at third and fifth on the ladder respectively, the Vixens and Magpies are just separated by three points, with the Vixens claiming four wins and a draw from their first six outings, while the Magpies have three wins.

The match will take place at Hisense Arena on Sunday 2 April, and be broadcast live on Telstra TV from 3pm.
