The Melbourne Vixens have gone down in an almighty battle against Collingwood Magpies in the #TeamGirls Cup, Suncorp Super Netball's pre-season tournament.
An intense first half saw the Vixens in control, a focus for all of the matches across the weekend. However, after the main break, the Vixens' cross-town rivals managed to edge ahead, eventually taking the game.
It was a combination of the height of Magpies goaler Shimona Nelson who was named player of the match, and costly mistakes from the Vixens that allowed the Magpies to run away with the win.
Vixens captain, Kate Moloney said while they're disappointed in the loss, it was part of the learnings they were expecting from the pre-season tournament.
"We executed exactly what we wanted to do in the first half, but it was basic skill errors that eventually let us down but that's what this tournament is all about," said Moloney.
"We've been able to put a few combinations out on court so we'll take a lot of out this weekend, it's been great.
"It's been a great opportunity for everyone to get out there and see where you're at against the other teams."
The Vixens will take on Collingwood again at the Bendigo Bockbuster from 30-31 March. Tickets are available here.
