The Melbourne Vixens have continued their unbeaten start to 2018, with a 60-57 victory against reigning Suncorp Super Netball Premiers, the Sunshine Coast Lightning in a pre-season practice match on Saturday.
The match, which was held at the Melbourne Vixens Fan Day at the State Netball & Hockey Centre, was played with a high intensity from the outset, with both sides exchanging the lead in an entertaining opening quarter, the Lightning up 15-14 at the first break.
The Vixens rallied and moved ahead, 21-18, early in the second quarter, before the Lightning found their rhythm to recapture the lead 30-28 at half-time.
Both sides experimented with their starting line-ups in the second half with the Vixens hitting the lead mid-way through the third quarter, never looking back to secure a thrilling three-goal win.
Vixens Wing Attack Liz Watson was pleased with the victory and thanked all the supporters for coming out to Fan Day.
“It is so exciting seeing everyone out here,” said Watson.
“We are preparing for Round 1 and to have this match at home and have everyone here, it is a taste for what is to come.”
“It was great seeing so many young netball fans out here today.”
