The Melbourne Vixens have showed plenty of promise for the upcoming Suncorp Super Netball season, with victories against the Adelaide Thunderbirds and NSW Swifts at the State Netball Hockey Centre this weekend.
n Saturday, the Vixens recorded back-to-back wins against the Thunderbirds and Swifts in shortened 30-minute matches.
However, they were unable to continue their winning form on Sunday, going down to the Swifts 59-48 after leading for the first three quarters.
Despite the loss, Melbourne Vixens Head Coach Simone McKinnis was pleased to see the new combinations continue to develop, particularly in the attacking third.
“It has taken some work with Tegan (Philip), MJ (Mwai Kumwenda) and Emma (Ryde) but we have been working really hard on building the new combinations and I have been super impressed by them,” said McKinnis.
In the absence of Jo Weston and Emily Mannix who are touring with the Australian Diamonds, Kadie-Ann Dehaney stepped up in the defensive circle, gaining valuable experience.
“She has been doing really well and she has been doing some very special stuff,” McKinnis said.
She just wants to get better, just like MJ, they want to be the best that they can be.”
In other results, the Victorian Fury defeated the Adelaide Thunderbirds, 48-46.
The Melbourne Vixens would like to thank all our amazing members and supporters for coming out and supporting the team this weekend.
