The Melbourne Vixens are gearing-up for the top-of-the-table clash with the Sunshine Coast Lightning this weekend in Round 10 of Suncorp Super Netball.
The Vixens moved to top spot on the Super Netball ladder after an eight-goal win over the NSW Swifts last Sunday, whilst the Lightning climbed into second with a win over the Adelaide Thunderbirds, pushing the former ladder leaders, GIANTS Netball, into third position.
The Vixens and the Lightning sit on equal points with seven wins, a draw and a loss, with just one percent separating the two teams.
When they last met in Round 2 the Lightning were 6 goal victors – inflicting the Vixens only loss of the season.
Lightning shooter, Caitlin Basset had a fantastic game, shooting 50 goals, whilst Cara Koenen supported her fellow shooter well with 15 goal assists.
Jo Weston was the standout from the game for the Vixens, with five intercepts and two deflections and keeping Koenen to just eight goals.
The match-up of the game this week will be between superstar Vixen shooter, Mwai Kumwenda, and former Vixen, Geva Mentor, who thrilled in their first encounter of the season.
When they last played it was a tight contest, with both players showing patches of brilliance.
Mentor finished the game with two intercepts and five deflections, whilst Kumwenda shot 28 goals and claimed four rebounds.
The Vixens will be hungry for the win when they rematch this weekend, with top-spot on the ladder on the line.
The match will be played at Margaret Court Arena on Saturday 29 April, and broadcast live on 9Gem.
