Melbourne Vixens v WBOP Magic match preview

Taking to the court at Hisense Arena for the second time this season, the Melbourne Vixens will go head-to-head with Trans-Tasman rivals WBOP Magic in Round Five of the ANZ Championship.

Last playing against each other in Round Three of the 2015 season, the Vixens managed to pull a narrow 3-goal victory [51-48] over the Magic in an away game at the ASB Arena, a win which they will be looking to extend on Sunday on home turf.

Keep your eyes peeled for 2015 Australian 21/U teammates Alice Teague-Neeld and Kristiana Manu’a, who could possibly line-up against each other in the Vixens attacking circle.

At the other end of the court it will be the battle of the Jo’s. Vixens goal defence Jo Weston will have the upper advantage when she comes up against Magic’s goal attack Jo Harten. Weston’s daunting combination of strength, height and movement will be tough for Harten to counteract.

It will be hard to separate Kate Moloney [Vixens] and Courtney Tairi [Magic] in the mid-court, with both players showcasing strong athleticism. The Magic’s line-up has shuffled around this year to cope with Casey Kopua’s pregnancy and Leana De Bruin’s injury, however, the Vixens will use this to their advantage in the hope to secure their second victory of the ANZ Championship season.

The team are feeling refreshed following their bye and are aiming to produce a four-quarter effort against the Magic on Sunday.

"Our preparation this week has focused on being more consistent and making sure that we produce a four-quarter effort," Liz Watson said.

"We are feeling refreshed after the bye, have been training with a high-intensity and are looking forward to playing at home once again."

Last competitive meeting: Rd 3, 2015: Melbourne Vixens won 51-48 over the WBOP Magic
