It will be an important match for the Melbourne Vixens on Monday against the Mainland Tactix in Christchurch as the Vixens look to continue their winning streak while celebrating Captain Madi Robinson’s 100th game in the Vixens’ armour.
With only two past and present players from the Vixens [Geva Mentor and Bianca Chatfield] reaching 100 games, this milestone is an achievement to celebrate. Teammate Geva Mentor is looking forward to welcoming Madi into the 100th club on Monday.
“I think it’s amazing what Madi has achieved even after everything she has been through personally over the last twelve months, she was on track to receive this milestone last year before injury. In hindsight, I think it’s going to be even more special for her to be able to achieve her 100th game as captain of a club that is very proud of her and what she has achieved throughout her time.
“There is only three Vixens ever to reach the 100th milestone, so I think it shows it’s no easy task,” Geva said.
Last playing each other in Round Nine of the 2015 season, The Vixens defeated the Tactix with a close score of 56-52.
It will be crucial for the Vixens to shut down the Tactix early on in their attacking end, as they feature their most experienced players in the circle. Vixens teammates Kate Moloney and Liz Watson will need to be in full form, locking down the centre court while hampering their ability to put the high ball up to Mwai Kumwenda and Bailey Mes, who are difficult to beat aerially.
A key match-up will be Geva Mentor [Vixens] and Mwai Kumwenda [Tactix]. The Malawi international import will test Geva’s limits as she features an intimidating combination of height, agility, speed and the ability to pull down the high ball from anywhere in the attacking third.
With the Tactix struggling defensively this year, it will be an opportunity that the Vixens will look to use to their advantage. Youngster goaler Alice Teague-Neeld will look to excel in the circle after a solid season so far alongside the help from teammate Emma Ryde who has had a tough task of coming up against some of the competitions leading defenders in 2016.
