The Melbourne Vixens are coming off a thrilling one-goal win over the Queensland Firebirds, and will be out to bring home the eight bonus points this Sunday against the Adelaide Thunderbirds.

The Vixens’ win over the Thunderbirds in Round 4 is the only game this year that the Melbourne side has secured the full eight points in Suncorp Super Netball’s new bonus points system.

Since that Round 4 clash, a new (ish) face has donned the navy dress in Renae Ingles, who will this weekend come up against the side she retired from last year.

Retiring from the sport in 2017 to focus on her family, Ingles received the call-up to return to the Melbourne Vixens in May to replace Chloe Watson (pregnant).

Ingles said she is looking forward to taking on her former side, who she played for between 2012 and 2017, captaining the side and being involved in a premiership in 2013. The last time she played against them was with the Vixens in 2011.

“It will be really exciting taking on Adelaide again. I haven’t played on them in a very, very long time, so I am looking forward to it!”

Although the Thunderbirds are winless in the 2018 season, their match last weekend against the Magpies saw them find season-best form.

Leading the match for the first half and adding a further two bonus points to their tally for the season, it was just a final quarter fade-out that saw the Magpies take the win.

Boosted by the addition of sharp shooter, Cat Tuivati, who played her first match of the year last weekend after recovering from a knee injury, the Thunderbirds will be full of

confidence heading into this Sunday’s match.

The Vixens will host the Adelaide Thunderbirds this Sunday, 15 July at Hisense Arena. Get your tickets here.
