Vixens out to spoil giants unbeaten run

The Melbourne Vixens will host GIANTS Netball - in a first v second clash for Round 6 of Suncorp Super Netball.

The GIANTS, who are undefeated so far in the competition, sit on top of the ladder, with the Vixens hot on their tail with three wins, a draw and a loss from their first five matches.

Both teams were boosted by big wins last weekend, with the GIANTS defeating the Adelaide Thunderbirds by 15, and the Vixens dominating the Queensland Firebirds to win by 16.

The Vixens’ win saw them move to second position on the ladder, setting up for the top-of-the-table clash.

The court for this round is riddled with enticing match-ups, from Goal Shooter to Goal Keeper.

Tegan Philip will be up-to-the-challenge against experienced defender Bec Bulley, whilst Jo Weston and Emily Mannix will be kept busy with shooters Susan Pettitt and Jo Harten.

The key match-up for the game will be between the two Centres, Kate Moloney and Serena Guthrie. With both players known for their defensive ability and drive for the ball.

Noticeably missing from the GIANTS team for this clash will be their Captain, Kimberlee Green, who ruptured her Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) in last weekend’s game.

However, the GIANTS have a wealth of other international talent, including English internationals Harten and Guthrie, Australian Diamonds player Pettitt and former Diamonds member, Bulley.

The Vixens will be up to the challenge against the international stars, with many of the Vixens players featuring on the leader board for various statistics.

Goal Attack, Philip, leads the competition for Centre Pass Receives, whilst Liz Watson is second in the competition for Goal Assists.

Both Philip and Mwai Kumwenda feature in the top eight for shooting, making the Vixens the only team to have both of their main shooters included in the top statistics.

The game will take place on Saturday 25 March, with the centre pass at 7:10pm.
