The Melbourne Vixens head west for the final game of the Suncorp Super Netball home and away season, when they take on West Coast Fever this Saturday night in Round 14
With just this match left before the finals series begins, the Vixens will be looking to keep first position on the ladder to secure a home final.
The Fever will be a good test for the team; although sitting in seventh position and out of finals contention, they will still come out fighting to claim a win in their last game of the season.
They challenged Magpies Netball – another finals-bound team – last week, going down by just seven-goals, and lost by just three goals in Round 10 against the Giants.
The Vixens were victorious last time the two teams played, in Round 4 of the competition.
The 11-goal victory was the first win of the Vixens’ eight-game winning streak, not dropping a match again until Round 12.
Defender, Emily Mannix, was named match MVP last time, finishing with 10 gains, two intercepts and nine deflections.
Mannix said that the Vixens need to focus on this week’s game, and not look at each team’s position on the ladder.
“I think it’s not looking at that ladder position, and having them second last on the ladder; that’s irrelevant,” said Mannix.
“They have put together some really quality netball and have improved and it’s a real danger game for us I think.”
“We are going out there with the mindset that we need to beat a really quality team and have that to focus on,” said Mannix.
The match will be played at Perth Arena at 8.45pm AEST on Saturday 27 May and broadcast live on 9Gem.
