Fury to begin 2011 campaign

Wednesday, 27 July 2011

Fierce. Fiery. Fury. The Victorian Fury 2011 return to the court in Canberra v the Darters this Saturday, 7pm, for their first game of the Australian Netball League (ANL) season.

With just eight games in the regular season, new coach Cathy Fellows and her charges will have to turn in consistent performances to secure a finals berth.

"You only play each team once so you have to put it all out there because there are no second chances," she said.

Each round of matches is hosted in one state over a weekend, with Victorias Waverley Netball Centre hosting the last round of the regular season on September 3-4 and then the finals series on September 17-18.

The ANL bridges the gap between state leagues and the ANZ Championship, with the Fury side made up of players from Melbourne Vixens and the Australian Institute of Sport, and emerging Victorian players.

Three players from last year's Fury team earned contracts from interstate ANZ Championship clubs.

The Fury has won the league championship since its inception in 2008.
